Obama and Hillary - not a hit diary

Matthews just said something that got me thinking as opposed to throwing heavy objects at the TV. He asserted that the only way the Democrats will get past the whole surrogate/racist issue would be for Obama and Hillary to combine on the same ticket.
My initial reaction was negative but the more I think about it the more the idea appeals.
They are both 24 carat gold plated rock stars so the obvious problem would be who would play second fiddle. Possible answer would be that whoever wins the delegate count gets to be boss. Obviously in the case of an Edwards victory the whole thing becomes moot.
Cheney may have done us a weird favor here. By vastly increasing the power of the Vice presidency, even to the point of becoming a 4th branch (slight snark there) the office suddenly becomes a lot more attractive to an ambitious politician on the way up as opposed to a career ending proposition.
Now the big question is, has the divide between the two camps become to wide to bridge in the manner suggested above. I suspect not, it is easy to get sucked into the whole white hot Dkos shitfest that is currently underway but in both Washington and the real world this is probably a notable disagreement but not grounds for divorce.
Also, could the two sets of supporters work together or are things to far gone for that to ever happen? I suspect not, I think the vitriol is probably peaking about now and focus will gradually shift towards the real enemy, the Republicans. It is Ironic that we have a fantastically strong set of candidates while the Rethugs have a motely crew of second raters yet it is us that are engaging in full on civil war.
The reason for this diary? to gauge opinion, I am really curious to know if a sizeable number of people here think that this could fly and is it something worth working towards? Am also interested in individual users opinion.
