Merry-Go-Round
Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 12:34:40 PM PDT
As the song says, (with profuse apologies for for making this stick in your heads for the rest of the day) You Can't Always Get What You Want.
And you know something? We can't. Because what we really want is a mixture of what we have and what we have had. That saying that Democrats fall in love and Republicans fall in line? Well, it would seem to be a truism too, although at this time it's as if someone took giant eraser to the line that Republicans toe so well and this diarist is grateful, however temporarily, as we have enough problems of our own.
We want the wisdom and far-sightedness of Al Gore. We want the hope and uplifting and gifted oratory of Barack Obama. We need the passion and strength and willingness to fight for the every-man that only John Edwards has shown us. We want and need greatness. Now more than ever before, we need and want these things!
This has been an interminable Merry-Go-Round ride! The operator left the switch on a seven year long bathroom break, some punk stole the brass ring, and we are all dizzy, tired and sick to our stomachs!
So here we go. Please indulge while I immerse myself in what can only be called a mini pity party.
Yeah, you guessed it. I'm a little down today as are many on this cite. Only a few short days ago, for a brief period of time, we glimpsed that brass ring. Something different and new seemed possible, even if it wasn't exactly everything all of us were seeking, at least a new start of some kind was in view. No, I am not ceasing to hope, no I am not going to cease reaching for that brass ring. Of course not. My own personal confusion will continue to exist between Edwards and Obama, reasons brought on by Mr. Edwards as he could have and should have found a modicum of Southern graciousness in the past week! And with that I come, at long last to Mrs. Clinton.
I reserve the right as a citizen of this country to be pissed-off at her. No, I do not hate Hillary and never have. I respect her both as a woman, a politician and a senator of these United States. But she gets no free passes from me, not from this woman! Hey, lady, we are all tired and we have all shed tears! Our country has been falling backwards for seven long years, bleeding and dying soldiers suffering and subjected to deployment after deployment on Bush's magical Merry-Go-Round in the desert sand, jobs lost, economic downturn, constition spat upon, laws broken and Bush/Cheney salivating at the thought of more of the same! And now you cry? Here is a news flash for you Hillary! You are not entitled to the highest office in the land by virtue of your last name or your gender!!!
Okay, deep breath. Get a grip!
If this rambling thing, called a diary has a point, perhaps it is this. We are looking for something better here. Something good and fine. Something higher. Ours is a country where the possibilites are supposed to be endless. We know where we have been and now we want to know something else. Where are we going?
No offense intended, but can someone please stop the Merry-Go-Round now?
