Forget McSame...It Should Be McShame

Thu Jul 24, 2008 at 05:46:22 AM PDT

As we've suffered through the longest Presidential race in history, a narrative on our side of the political spectrum arose. McSame. Obviously, because McCain's policies were so close to those of President Bush.

But I'm not sure that's fair. And not in the way you might think. I'm not arguing that McSame is too harsh...I'm arguing it isn't harsh enough.

OMFG I can't believe it WTF???

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 11:11:24 PM PDT

I just can't believe it. I mean, I really had faith in a movement, and then this scandal breaks.

I'm heartbroken. Stunned. Distraught. Vaguely hungry.

People are actually believing the National Enquirer.

I know, me too.

"They have to follow orders": Part II

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 09:01:40 PM PDT

Sometimes, there are topics that you just cannot do justice in one diary.  This is not one of those topics.

Sometimes, there are simply people who cannot comprehend a topic, the facts presented about the topic, and the gist of the issue.  This is one those times.

So, off we go...

I am so damned tired of almost losing family.

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 07:40:54 PM PDT

I'm pretty sure my daughter Rory is traumatized for life after the last couple years. She's almost three, and waaaay too familiar with hospitals. It started in January of '07, when she got a staph infection; basically flesh-eating bacteria. We took her to the emergency room when she developed a fever and a pimple on her leg turned into a swollen area the size of my wife's palm. The emergency room sent us home with the wrong antibiotic, and said to contact her pediatrician within the next three days or so.

In the morning she wasn't any better than when we'd left the hospital, so I demanded a same-day appointment with the pediatrician. Apparently, if we'd waited for day two, she'd have lost the leg, and if we'd waited to day three, she probably wouldn't have made it.

Follow me across the jump if you don't mind reading a diary that doesn't touch on McCain's latest gaffe. It gets worse. Skull surgeries and broken vertebrae abound.

CBS caught making OTHER edits...

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 02:36:31 PM PDT

...for the sake of "time".

TO: CBS editing team.
SUBJECT: Jaws

Can we just edit the "shark" out of the movie.

Its a little scary and we were hoping to air a segment with Katie in a bikini called "Beachy! Sexy! Craaaazy! Are your thighs ready for summer?"

Andrea Mitchell...this one's for YOU!

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 10:53:46 AM PDT

Apologies upfront for this being a fairly short diary but I am sick to death of Andrea Mitchell.

What I Really Hate On Prog Blogs...

Tue Jul 22, 2008 at 04:42:24 PM PDT

I hate it when someone posts a middle finger aimed at a product they haven't even tried, simply because they judged it by its name and the initial press release.

I hate when folks on the left decry concern trolls telling democrats and feminists how they should behave, and then turn around and concern troll others, without actually doing all the legwork to support their position.

WTF! The New Yorker COVER Does it AGAIN!

Tue Jul 22, 2008 at 01:07:54 PM PDT

I cannot believe these people! I canceled my subscription before, but I am now calling the magazine to get a NEW subscription, so that I can cancel it again later today!

No, no. Better yet... I'm going to buy the entire magazine so that I can go into the office of every staff member wearing a Donald Trump style wig and yell, "You're so totally and everlastingly unemployed!"

Don't know what I'm talking about?

WELL, LOOK AT THIS, SPANKY:

You have your jelaouse reporters, like andrea Mitchel, and you have you bias reporters like AC 360.

Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 09:21:16 PM PDT

Some people in the media need Therapy!  Wtf:  I have watched some shitty reporting from people who let there personal feelings get in the way of professional journalism.
For ex: Andrea MItchel was livid today that she did not get an interview with Obama, and she let everyone on MSNBC know it, from the Chris Matthews show (where she said, these Military reporters have no experience like we do, and so we cannot confirm anything they report). BS!  To other shows( like Dan Abrams) saying the same thing.
And then just now on Anderson Cooper, it was David Gergen who said Obama just made his first mistake...  He said that Obama said Maliki told him that he wants an aspirational timetable.

So WHAT!  Am I missing something?  Is that not great news?

ROD SERLING WOULD LOVE TO DO A SHOW ABOUT ANDERSON COOPER.

Join me over the jump for a discussion about stupid people with issues, in the press...

What it's like to have been blacklisted.

Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 08:07:49 PM PDT

Today I was blacklisted on this web site.

Throughout American history, and World history in general, people have been blacklisted.  I've known that in the abstract, but to have experienced it first hand here has been a real eye-opener.

It gives me a new appreciation of the pain and frustration honorable people have gone through in the past.  Having served as an officer in the Air Force for 20 years defending our country, and having 4 degrees from 4 different universities, this is a totally new perspective for me.  Now I know how others must feel.

Andrea Mitchell on Hardball: "Clearly the Surge has worked"?!? WTF?!?!

Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 04:22:16 PM PDT

Disgraceful shill Andrea Mitchell just gave a two minute speech on Chris Matthew's Hardball in which she stated that "clearly the surge has worked!"

I shit you not.

I'm writing this diary shaking with rage.

A Dollar Donated to Hillary Clinton is a Dollar not Spent Against Republicans

Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 04:17:58 AM PDT

This is a rant against a fellow Democrat. If you can't stomach it please don't read any further.

There is an old  joke about a guy  running down the street with his clothes on fire. Another  man comes up to him with a cigarette  and asks

Hey, Buddy. Can I have a light?

That is Sen. Clinton for you.

Gas is $4.50. Banks are failing. People are struggling.  We are in a tough race against John McCain for President. It is not an exaggeration to say that the fate of the world hangs in the balance. At the very least the fate of thousands of our soldiers and many more Iraqis.

McCain is exploiting loopholes in the law ( which he wrote) toget supporters to pay as much as $100K per person. The RNC has a 2 to 1 advantage in fundraising over  the DNC.  In the midst of all this, what does Hillary Clinton want us to do?

Pay off her campaign debt!. Talk about selfish. Ran a spendthrift campaign, always spending more than she raised. Is worth at least $100M. And she wants the small contributors to Obama's campaign to pay her bills.

Raising $20M  to pay Clinton's  bills is not our priority.

Pay your own bills!

Are Americans REALLY this ignorant?

Sun Jul 20, 2008 at 02:41:36 PM PDT

So I was reading the comments on the video of Obama meeting the troops that's on YouTube, and some of the comments on the Huffington Post under the article with the pictures from Obama's trip to the Middle East, and I am amazed at the ignorance of some of the people that are posting there. People are actually acting like Obama being well-recieved by excited troops is irrelevant because those troops were black, and that he wouldn't get the same reaction from white troops. Some even seem to believe that Obama's campaign specifically asked for only Black people to be in the Army that day so Obama wouldn't have to worry about a salty greeting. The ignorance of these people amazes me.

John McCain Re-Restates his al-Maliki statement.

Sun Jul 20, 2008 at 04:41:55 AM PDT

Washington, July 20th, 2008

Presidential Candidate John McCain held a press conference today to clarify his response to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's statement that:

"U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal... with slight changes."

Initially Senator McCain said, "(al-Maliki's) domestic politics require him to be for us getting out," but that drew fire from some who wondered how the Senator from Arizona could work with the al-Maliki if he couldn't take him at his word.

"With the Iraqi Prime Minister you need to ignore what he actually says, my friends, and listen instead to what WE say he says," The Republican candidate began.

I wanna stir up some sh**. So this "corporate media" thing...

Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 08:12:42 PM PDT

has got my mind bouncing around inside my skull, and I'm thinking: The whole thing runs on greed. He who makes more money has more power, he who makes money by advertizing revenue is basically running a perpetual popularity contest over ideas.

In other words, the media - corporate, mainstream, or otherwise - can't sell what people won't buy. So when I hear people start trashing the "Main Stream Media", or the "Corporate Media", I have to ask you all a question: who do you think is buying their shit?

Somebody has to be buying it or they wouldn't be paying so much to put it out there. I gotta dump more over the fold, I have a feeling this rant might go on a little longer than I thought.

Losing Ourselves Beyond Redemption

Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 03:13:05 PM PDT

The increasing erosion of our constitutions, civil rights and democracies as they are being gradually subjugated by Authoritarian Security Surveillance States. The bloating no-fly lists and terrorist watch-lists. The continuing inhumane and barbaric renditions, "enhanced interrogations" and indefinite detentions - of children, teenagers and adults alike. The continuing standing of Military Commissions, which are nothing more than politically-driven, rigged, kangaroo courts. The seemingly unending wars of choice and occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq - both based on lies to justify a vengeance operation for 9/11 and the securing of foreign oil resources. The ever mounting toll of civilian deaths, displaced refugees and soldier casualties.

This is the overall state of things today with regards to our so-called "Western civilization" - especially with regards to the U.S.A., the U.K. and Canada.

I'm really tired of hearing "extraordinary claim"

Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 12:07:25 PM PDT

You know, there are some things that are simply silly.  People crying "extraordinary claim, where's your proof" is one of them.

This isn't about stopping libel or slander from occurring.  It isn't even about maintaining a "credible" place for discussion because, to date, I've yet to see one "aliens kept at Area 51" diary.

So, let me show you exactly why this is silly...

Hey Bill Burton: McCain is a joke!

Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 05:42:22 PM PDT

I'm pissed right now.
It's bad enough that we have to listen to McCain and his asswipes make up stuff about Obama because the truth doesn't work for them.
Then I go over to iceberg slim's diary to check out our side's response and this is what I get ...

Response from the Obama Campaign:

Obama spokesman Bill Burton: "While Barack Obama wants to change American foreign policy to wind down the war in Iraq and address the grave threat posed by a resurgent al Qaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan, John McCain offers this patently misleading negative ad. Given his calls for a civil campaign, it's disappointing that Senator McCain has slipped so easily into the same, tired campaign tactics that have become so familiar to the American people."

C'mon Bill.  We can do better.
